This society aims to aid students in understanding the consulting indsutry, and to help them in their aims of hitting their career goals in finding graduate roles. The society will be programmed as follows, the first half of the year to be set up for lectures and/or talks by people part of the society or consultants from outside companies once or twice a week to gain insights and knowledge of the industry for students and what working in the industry entails, how much work there is, the kind of work involved and different branches that the skills obtained in the industry can aid students careers.
The second half of the year would involve talking to a small business to allow us to take on a consulting project based on their needs where the students part of the society would be split into two groups, or more depending on the number of people in the society, and then for the results to be presented to the business and someone who has previously worked in the industry or currently is working in it at one of the consulting firms which work in Edinburgh. Students to then receive feedback on the project that has been presented by the business itself and how it believes that project is valuable to its operations, and the consultant would be invited in to see the results of the work and give their opinion to each group on how they can improve their respective proposals.
This experience would provide students with a fun way to gain valuable industry experience which they can put into their CVs and aid them in receiving further internship offers in the finance and banking industry and it would mean that these students come out of the society with new knowledge and skills which they can transfer to other facets of their life. This is especially prevalent in the fact that graduate roles are becoming harder to get and companies requirements keep increasing it would become very popular with students to receive this kind of push and put down real world experience which is relevant to the roles that they would apply to in the future or even present them with an idea if they would like to do this role at all.
Please join us and welcome to an amazing educational experience. If you are interested in joining the society comitte please feel free to send me an email and we can meet and see which roles would fit you best.
