Galloween

Galloween was the spookiest night of the year in the Borders! We planned our annual Halloween Costume Party which the Gala Rugby Club kindly hosted for us. Over 70 students came along and had a blast!
We gave out prizes for the top 3 best dressed, with first place receiving a booth at the legendary nightclub Indigo Rooms along with a bottle of Belvedere and mixers.

Rocktober

We planned an awesome rock themed costume party in Galashiels from recommendations from students. Around 30 people came dressed up in wicked outfits. The students were able to play table tennis and beer pong it was an absolute hoot n’ a half

Sustainability Week

I was the lead on developing a Sustainability Week events programme. We kicked off both Edinburgh and Galashiels with a vintage clothing fair. Other highlights include the Repair What You Wear session where students could bring in ripped garments and learn how to fix them. A Tote Bag session ran by the Art Society which we supported. This event proved to be pretty popular where we ended up running out of Tote Bags (sorry!). We also teamed up with the Sports Union to give out Keep Cups at events. If you never got your free Keep Cup, we still have some left just ask nicely at the general office in the Student Union building.

Feel Good Fest Galashiels

Georgia planned an engaging event in Gala with local charities, free cookies, milkshakes/smoothies, freebie bags and alpacas. I was there to organise stalls and give out the goodie bags and ensure that it all ran smoothly, around 50 students came and had a pretty sweet time

Class Rep Celebration Event

For the first time, a globally aligned celebration event had taken place, seeing Scotland, Dubai and Malaysia championing the work and value that our class representative structures bring to enable student voice.

Academic Congress

The first academic congress of this semester was held which discussed the theme of Assessment and Feedback. Student representatives and staff involved in Learning and Teaching were key participants. Discussion topics ranged from the types of feedback to the 3-week feedback policy.

MTMOF Resources

After three years – and three VP Educations – the release and roll out of ‘Making the Most of Feedback’ resources have now been made available to students. This will enable students across the university to think about how to use feedback for their own development and progression throughout their degree. You can find this on the Skills Hub website, along with recorded podcasts and templates!

Georgia Noble VP Wellbeing

Feel Good Fest

Feel Good Fest was a blast. As part of Global Wellbeing Week, we held wellbeing fairs on the Edinburgh and Galashiels campuses and gave each student in Orkney the opportunity to claim a free self-care gift from plants to skincare products.

EDI Group Lunch

Our student EDI Group met for the second time, this time with a free lunch! We had some productive discussions around the barriers facing students from ethnic backgrounds when accessing mental health support, followed by a training session from the university’s HR function on unconscious bias. Keep an eye out for the launch of our student-led #unheardvoices campaign!

BME Advocate Recruitment

We ran a successful recruitment drive for BME Advocates during October as part of the Black Voices Project. We’ll be announcing our successful candidates this month!
