Once again, this year, the Student Union Oscars kicked off our Awards Week on Thursday, 3rd April, followed by the Volunteering Awards the very next day. Two ceremonies. Two nights to remember. One purpose: celebrating people who drive change. From pink carpet interviews to a drinks’ reception, we had it all. But most importantly, our focus was on giving our community the recognition they deserve for their inspiring contributions.
The Oscars spotlighted staff members at Heriot-Watt who have gone above and beyond to make the student experience exceptional. Each nominee was put forward by a student eager to recognise the impact that individual had on their university journey. Hosted by Cameron Fields, Student Union President, and Holly McAdams, Student Union Vice President Academic, the night was a true celebration, complete with heartfelt speeches, emotional moments, and plenty of well-deserved applause. It was a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have—from academic support and personal guidance to simply going above and beyond in everyday interactions.
The following night, on Friday, 5th April, the Volunteering Awards took centre stage, shifting the focus to the students who dedicate their time and energy to making a difference within the Heriot-Watt community. Sebi, Vice President Community, and Rachel, Vice President Wellbeing, hosted a show to remember, filled with funny moments, community spirit, and a real sense of belonging. This event was all about recognising the often-overlooked contributions of those who give selflessly to societies, events, and initiatives that improve life on campus and beyond. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our vibrant community, and each award celebrated their passion and commitment.
