About Us 

We’re Heriot-Watt University Student Union, an independent charity run by students, for students. Everything we do - from our Advice Hub to our societies and events - is about making student life better. We reinvest every penny from Liberty’s Café, Geordies Bar, and the Union Shop straight back into student services. 

Our Student Executive Team helps shape student life, and we’re looking for students to join the Selection Panel to help choose the next leaders of the Union. If you’re interested in recruitment, leadership, or decision-making, this is the perfect hands-on experience for you.

Role Overview 

As a Student Executive Selection Panel Member, you’ll be part of a team that shortlists, interviews, and selects the next Student Executive Team. You’ll gain valuable experience in recruitment, leadership, and decision-making - skills that will look great on your CV and help in future job applications. 

What You’ll Do 

• Review applications and help shortlist candidates. 

• Take part in real interview panels, asking questions and assessing candidates. 

• Work with other students to select the best candidates for the Exec Team. 

• Make fair, balanced, and impactful decisions that will shape the future of the Union. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Participate in Training – Get guidance on how to assess candidates and conduct interviews. 

• Application Shortlisting – Help review and select candidates to move forward. 

• Interviewing – Be part of structured interviews and decision-making discussions. 

• Teamwork & Fair Judgement – Work with other panel members to make objective, fair, and informed choices. 

What You’ll Gain

• An opportunity to make an impact without running for a Union role yourself. 

Time Commitment & Support 

• Total Time Commitment: 15 hours 

• Training Provided: Training and guidance from Union staff 

• Hours towards Volunteering 

Eligibility: If you apply for this role, you cannot apply for a Student Executive position
