Rate

up to £12 per hour

Hours

We expect this role will work 7 out of the 9 days of Freshers Week, with shift lengths varying from 4 to 8 hours each. It is likely that shifts will finish late each evening at around 3am (we provide taxis home if you finish late).

Interview

Interviews will take place 21st - 23rd August 2024 to ensure we have the right team in time for Freshers Week. If you are unable to attend an interview in this period, we will not be able to offer you a place on the team.

Job Duration

This role is fixed-term, working between 31st August and 8th September 2024 plus 3 days training 27th - 29th August.

Role Overview

Step into the whirlwind of Freshers Week as our part of our Events Team. You’ll be at the heart of the action, ensuring our Food & Beverage operations exemplify excellence and leave every student with lasting memories of their first week.

This is a fixed-length job (lasting for the duration of Freshers Week) and will primarily include evening / night shifts to help us deliver our 9-day Freshers Week events programme. We are looking for people with flexibility which will be essential for this role.

We expect each successful candidate will work 7 out of the 9 days of Freshers Week, with shift lengths varying from 4 to 8 hours each. It is likely that shifts will finish late each evening at around 3am (we provide taxis home for any staff that work past the last regular service bus into town).

  • Frontline Engagement: You’re on the front lines, greeting students, checking wristbands, and managing venue access with a smile.
  • Venue Vigilance: Keep our spaces pristine and welcoming, ensuring everything from the cloakroom to the tables is perfectly managed.
  • Operational Support: Assist our front of house team during our busiest times, ensuring we’re stocked, clean, and delivering top-notch service.

Principal Duties

  • Assist with front of house duties for events, such as checking tickets & wristbands to enter our venues
  • Working in the cloakroom, taking and returning customer’s coats
  • Venue upkeep, maintaining high standards through glass collecting and clearing tables
  • Support Front of House staff during busy periods by replenishing stock, serving food orders to tables and glass washing

Other Duties

  • Any other duties deemed appropriate for the role by the Line Manager.
  • Comply with all HWUnion policies, procedures, and governing documents.
  • Undertake personal and professional development as required to maintain appropriate knowledge and skills.
  • These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. Other duties or a change of duties may be necessary from time to time.

Training

In order to accept this role, you must be available to attend mandatory training - the times and dates are shown below and you must attend all dates / times listed. This training is not optional and you will be paid, but you must be able to attend in-person. We have high standards that we intend to maintain, so require all staff to complete training prior to Freshers Week and the academic year starting.
