Freshers Week - Edinburgh

Freshers Week is a calendar of events tailored to welcoming new and returning students to Heriot-Watt. It is the week before teaching starts and the events are wide-ranging from Day trips to club nights. This year, there are also events being run by student societies.

A large number of the Freshers Week Events are free, you can view the full calendar here. The bigger events are ticketed as there is a capacity for numbers. For day trips you need to purchase the tickets in advance, for club nights we recommend that you buy in advance online, however, you can buy at the door if there is space.

We recommend that you buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment, the day trips sell out as there are limited numbers. We have a capacity in the Student Union for club nights, so to make sure that you don’t get left outside we would recommend buying in advance.

The Watt Welcome Fair is on Wednesday 4^th. It is a colourful and diverse showcase of all things Heriot-Watt, spanning across Oriam and the Student Union. This is the perfect opportunity to meet sports clubs, societies, and departments across the university. There is also plenty of freebies given away from your favourite brands.

Short answer: No. Even though we do tailor a lot of our events to welcoming new students to the campus. A lot of events this year appeal to students of all ages. If you are interested in these sorts of events check out our list here.

All events are suitable for International Students. However, on Tuesday the 3rd we have our “Welcome to Scotland Day”. This is a full day designed to crash-course you into Scottish culture. We have a Highland Games throughout the day and Scottish storytelling & a Scottish Ceilidh at night!
