Maker Society

We are a group of students who are interested in the maker movement, that being making things (both from scratch and from other things).

Jump Start

This society is part of the Jump Start Scheme.

Sometimes a society that has existed in previous years doesn't continue on into the new year for whatever reason, often because the people who run it graduate. This means that sometimes a society is ready to go, but missing a crucial part of what's needed to make it tick, that could be you! With our jump start a society programme, you can become a society leader and pick up where the society left off! Otherwise, if you'd be interested in joining the society, please sign up so we know which societies have the highest level of interest and where we can offer the most support!

WHAT DO WE DO?

We are a society for anyone and everyone interested in making, tinkering, and bringing ideas to life! You don't need to be studying engineering or any specific STEM subject - we welcome all curious minds. From complete beginners to experienced makers, our workshops and activities cater to all skill levels!

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Weekly MakerSpace Sessions: Wednesdays, 2-4pm. Use our equipment and collaborate with others.
  • Workshops: Guided sessions for creating various projects.
  • Skill-Building Courses: Short sessions on topics like 3D modeling and Arduino basics.
  • Equipment Access: 3D printers, laser cutters, and resin printers available with training.
  • Project Funding: Limited support available for promising ideas.
  • Inter-Society Projects: Occasional collaborations with other university groups.
  • Events: Monthly social gatherings.
