Thank you so much for thinking about donating to us. Heriot-Watt University Student Union is a charity registered in Scotland (SC011949) and our main purpose is to put Students First, Always.
Many people think of a Student Union as being a bar on campus. Yes, we are that but we also provide a range of other services and facilities to our members (the students at HW UK campuses) including:
- Independent advice & support through our Advice Hub service to help students on anything from problems with their studies, to difficult land lords
- Wellbeing support and campaigns focused on things affecting students such as mental health
- Campaigns to raise awareness of social and environmental issues faced by students today such as our Black Voices Project and Sustainability Week
- Representation of the student voice at all levels of the University, and nationally through our Academic Reps
- Over 60 societies, providing much needed non-teaching activities under a range of categories helping to create social and career connections
- Volunteering scheme to log the hours students spend volunteering both within the HW community and wider, which is then recorded on their academic transcript to support job applications in the future
We are lucky to be supported financially by the University, as well as the money made from our commercial activities such as our cafe, bar and on-campus shop, but as with all charities this money can only go so far. With donations from kind people such as yourselves, we are able to do more for the students at Heriot-Watt and make their experiences even better.
COVID-19
We, like many charities, are feeling the pinch of COVID-19. Due to current restrictions in place across the country, our commercial activities are seeing a down-turn compared to normal. With fewer students on campus, and ever-changing restrictions placed upon trading (in particular within the hospitality sector) we aren't seeing the financial income we normally would. This has a direct impact on the types and amount of support we can offer our students - at a time when students need us the most.
Any donation you provide will help us to continue providing the help, support and social connections that students need during these difficult times.
