As alumni of Heriot-Watt, you will perhaps remember the vast amounts of money that you spent on those all-important textbooks during your time with us. On top of accommodation, food, utilities and other costs related to student life, the price of textbooks is one that many struggle to afford.

By donating your used textbooks to the Book Collaboration Project, a partnership between the Student Union, Information Services, the School of Social Sciences and the Development & Alumni Team, you are helping our students to avoid taking on hundreds of pounds worth of debt and causing unnecessary amounts of stress which can be detrimental towards their wellbeing. Quite simply, you will be helping students to access education, successfully complete their studies, and become one of the leaders of tomorrow

Here’s what to do:

  1. Open up the list of essential reading for the School of Social Sciences and check to see if you have any of the selected books by searching the spreadsheet using the spreadsheet search tools - Ctrl + F for PC, Cmd + F for Mac (N.B. please ensure that the edition is the one required e.g. a 2nd edition may be very different from a 4th edition and therefore we ask for only the editions that are requested)

  2. If you have one or more of the titles that we need, please complete the form below to let us know what title you are donating.

  3. One of our volunteers will reply to you within 72 hours to accept the book and then you can either 1) drop the book(s) off at a pre-determined location and time on campus OR post the book to:

    The Book Collaboration Project
    Cameron Smail Library
    Heriot-Watt University
    Riccarton
    EH14 4AS

  4. We invite each donor to include a note to the new owner of their textbook to let them know a little about the journey of not only the book, but its owner

  5. When we receive your book(s), we will gift them to those who need them the most and encourage each beneficiary to do the same when they no longer need it.

The books on the list are for those needed in semester 2 (January 2021) and therefore we would ask that if you can, to consider sending or dropping off your donations as soon as possible.

We hope that the project will be a success and if so, we plan to roll this out to the other schools in the university.

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for helping us shape tomorrow together.
